Early life
Wolfgang Petry was born in Cologne on September 22, 1951. He grew up with his father, mother and brother, five years younger, in the Raderthal district. His father was a car mechanic, but also appeared as a solo entertainer and was very musical. Wolfgang made his first musical attempts at the age of eight on the recorder. Together with a neighboring child, he played polyphonic at an early age. At the age of ten he received piano lessons. At the age of twelve he started to learn to play the guitar. When Wolfgang was 16, his father died and he took responsibility for his brother. As a student he founded his first band with the “Screamers”. During his apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, he toured with her through Cologne and the surrounding area.
Career
Wolfgang Petry’s debut album was released in 1976. Other records and television appearances followed in the 70s and 80s. A big leap in his career took place in 1991, when he landed a big hit with “Fall in love, lose, forget, forgive”. In 1996 he then looked for a suitable group to perform his songs live. He found this with the band “The Public”, which was to become his “Petry Band” and with whom he went on tour.
