the Amendment is incorporated into article 207.1 of the criminal code. This article regulates the responsibility for the dissemination of false information about circumstances that threaten the life and safety of citizens.
under the new rules to punish fake information are fines ranging from 300 to 700 thousand rubles. The possible penalty in the amount of wages or other income for a period of one year to 18 months.
Also, the offender may entrust the execution of obligatory works for the term up to 360 hours, or correctional labor for a term up to one year. The new measures also provides for imprisonment up to three years.
Legal persons for dissemination through the media or information and telecommunications networks of false information can be fined in the amount of 1.5 million rubles to 3 million rubles.
If fake news has led to the death of a person, infliction of harm to health or property, mass violation of public order or security, as well as damaged critical infrastructure, infrastructure, power, industry or Association, the penalty will be increased to 5 million rubles.
In case of recurrence of these violations, a legal entity will be obliged to pay from 5 to 10 million rubles fine. The authors of the amendments made by the deputies Andrey Isaev and Sergei Boyarsky.
