Short introduction

Roland Kaiser is one of the best-known German pop singers. He celebrated his first successes in the mid-1970s. Roland Kaiser has been married to his wife Silvia in a third marriage since 1996. The two have two children together. Kaiser also has a son from his second marriage to Anja Schüte.

Early years and first points of contact with music

Roland Kaiser grew up in post-war West Berlin with a foster mother. His birth mother became pregnant at 16 and released the baby for adoption after birth. His foster mother had sole custody. After leaving school, he completed an apprenticeship as an automotive salesman, which he successfully completed in 1969. In the dealership where he trained, he later headed the advertising department.

In the early 1970s, he worked as a telegram messenger. Since the money was very scarce, he was already working as a pop singer at the time. He performed in pubs and also at weddings. During one of these appearances, the successful music producer Gerd Kampf discovered him.

Career

In 1974 Roland Kaiser released his first single “What Happened to Her”. Roland had his first sales success with the single “Seven Barrels of Wine”. The song reached number seven on the German charts. With “Schach Matt”, another single from his third studio album, he achieved another commercial success. The Singe stayed in the charts for a total of 11 weeks. In 1980 Roland Kaiser took part in the German preliminary round of the Grand Prix Eurovision. However, he only reached twelfth place here. Since then his career has been going uphill.

Highlights of his career

In May 1980 he released his most successful single “Santa Maria”. The song was number one on the German single charts for 5 weeks. The title developed into an absolute super hit in Germany. To date, over 1.2 million singles have been sold. The title also became a No. 1 hit in Belgium and the Netherlands. The single was awarded gold twice in all countries.

Other great hits by the artist include the following singles: “Midnight Lady”, “To love you”, “Joana”, “I think it will start again” and “Love me one last time”.

Of course, this is just a small selection of Roland Kaiser’s oeuvre. Kaiser has become an integral part of the German music world. His titles are hits with heart and mind, but at the same time invite you to sing along. He also has a large fan base among younger audiences, which not every hit star of the 80s can say about himself. Roland Kaiser is rightly considered the most successful pop singer of the early 80s. He also wrote texts for famous colleagues such as Nana Mouskuri, Milva, Peter Maffay and the band Karat.

Famous quotes

“I want to share some of the happiness that life and society have given me.”

“Everything is possible, I am more convinced of this today than ever before”. (Recent quote)

Amazing facts

Roland Kaiser is a member of the SPD and a good friend of Sigmar Gabriel and Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

He is also a board member of the Solidarfonds Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since he grew up as an orphan himself, he is committed to many institutions for children.

Organ donation is also very important to him.

In 2010, he was transplanted into a donor lung himself after suffering from COPD, a serious lung disease.

He has also been an ambassador for the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Villages and the Children’s Hospice Central Germany Nordhausen eV for a long time

He is also an ambassador for the AtemWeg Foundation and, more recently, for the Kinderlachen eV association

These are just a few social projects that Roland Kaiser is committed to.

The German German Phono Academy took this commitment, which is not necessarily a matter of course, as an occasion to award Mr. Kaiser the “Echo for Social Commitment”. An award he can truly be proud of. And Roland Kaiser more than deserves this award.
