Charity concert as a thank you for the Corona helpers worldwide
Under the motto “One World: Together At Home”, many world stars gave a virtual benefit concert for the Corona helpers worldwide on Saturday night. It was organized by Oscar winner Lady Gaga (34) and the aid organization “Global Citizen”. Countless superstars followed their call around two weeks after the announcement of the concert.
“One World: Together At Home” wasn’t just about music superstars
The Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, Billie Eilish, Elton John, John Legend, Paul McCartney, Andrea Bocelli, Jennifer Lopez, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Ora, Lizzo, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, pianist Lang Lang and many more “performed “in aid of Corona Help.
But there was not just something musically on offer: the two-hour show was moderated by late night stars Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. Between the gigs, Heidi Klum, moderator Oprah Winfrey and actor Matthew McConaughey, among others, explained what the event was all about: On behalf of everyone, they thanked the helpers for their commitment.
Lady Gagas “love letter to the world”
Lady Gaga opened the benefit concert with a cover of Nat King Cole’s (1919-1965) classic “Smile” from her home. As a greeting, she said aloud, “Over the past few weeks, we have seen incredible bravery, courage, and kindness all over the world in response to this global pandemic. Everyone – from doctors and nurses at the forefront to volunteer mental health specialists , Grocery store employees, parcel delivery staff and postal workers – have shown an unprecedented level of friendliness in the fight against Covid-19. ”
The event was explicitly “not a fundraiser, so put your wallets away,” added Lady Gaga. “It is our love letter to the world.”
At the end she performed the Dion-Bocelli duet “The Prayer” together with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli together with John Legend and Lang Lang.
