“Daisies” is the first single of Katy Perry’s upcoming album. “KP5”, as the untitled fifth studio album by fans is called, will be released on August 14th and can be pre-ordered now.
When one of the greatest pop stars of the last decade heads for a new album, sometimes three letters are enough and everyone knows: “KP5” is the unofficial short form for Perry’s upcoming long player, whose countdown has officially started the 35-year-old. Produced by The Monsters & Strangerz (Zedd, Halsey, Maroon 5), she composed “Daisies” together with Jon Bellion, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Michael Pollack and The Monsters. In compliance with the distance rules, the Californian and her director Liza Voloshin also shot a casual, early summer video in a Super 8 look – of course including a baby bump and many “daisies”.
Ever since Katy Perry hit “I Kissed A Girl” (2008) and was a No. 1 hit in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and many other countries, she has been one of the greatest pop icons of our time: After selling millions for her Debut album “One Of The Boys” (if you don’t count an early work from 2001) she already landed in the Guinness book (for digital sales) in 2010 and also wrote music history with the teenage successor successor, as five singles in a row the top position of the US -Charts revenue.
Four of them also mixed up the top 10 in Germany.

Over 40 billion streams
In total, Katy Perry’s songs now have over 40 billion streams, flanked by 45 million albums sold and over 135 million singles sold. After being the first artist to record four videos with more than a billion YouTube views each, the clip for “Roar” recently broke the 3 billion mark – another record for the singer. Already named “Goodwill Ambassador” by UNICEF in 2013, the mother-to-be has campaigned for years for children’s rights and aid networks for the sick in the poorest regions of the world (she received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award in 2016).
“The cat is out of the bag”, was the motto at Billboard this week: After Katy Perry recently had her huge fan base again and again with individual tracks (“Never Really Over”, “Small Talk”, “Harleys in Hawaii” and “Never Worn White “) had put off, the countdown to the fifth album has now officially opened. To put it in Katy’s words: “The music must go on.”
