Early life
Joshua Kimmich was born on February 8th, 1995 in Rottweil. His parents Anja and Berthold Kimmich raised him in Bösingen, where he also discovered his passion for football and took the first steps at the local VfB Bösingen. When he was young, Kimmich was sometimes known as a scorer. This finally helped him to move to the VfB Stuttgart football boarding school, since a game against his youth team was decisive. At the age of twelve he started his career in competitive sports, which was hardly characterized by injuries or lack of game practice until he entered the men’s division. Career
After going through all the youth teams, Joshua Kimmich switched to RB Leipzig for the 2013/14 season, with VfB Stuttgart securing a right of repurchase after two years. At the then third division club, which was considered a favorite for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, Joshua Kimmich did not get a chance on the first ten match days. He made his debut in professional football on February 28, 2013 against SpVgg Unterhaching after Kimmich came on for Thiago Rockenbach. From then on Joshua Kimmich belonged to the regular staff of the Saxons and rose after 26 games with the runner-up of the 3rd division.
Even in the following season, coach Alexander Zorniger consistently relied on the young defensive player. Joshua Kimmich also went through all age groups in the national team.
