The beginning of the war in Europe lived 350-400 thousands of Russian immigrants, most of whom settled in France, Poland, the Czech Republic in the Balkans. They all reacted to German aggression against the Soviet Union. Emigration has split into two camps: the "defeatists" and "defensists".

June 30, 1941 in Lviv was published "Act of proclamation of Ukrainian State". He ended with the words: "long live the leader of organization of Ukrainian nationalists and the Ukrainian people Stepan Bandera!"

But when the Soviet advance on the capital of the Reich stayed in the 60-70 km away, and the Americans, almost without opposition, crossed the Rhine and captured the Western Germany, the Western allies was tempted to enter Berlin before the Russians.
