Short introduction

Carmen Nebel was born in Grimma in 1956. After she started as an announcer on state television in the GDR in 1984, she quickly became a favorite with the public with her first own television show “Sprungbrett”, in which she introduced young talents from the GDR. For this program she also received the “Fernsehliebling” in 1989, a viewer award for various television programs from the GDR, which was awarded from 1963 to 1989.

Early life

Carmen Nebel initially graduated from the extended high school in Grimma, one of the most traditional schools in Saxony. It was founded in 1550 by Duke Moritz of Saxony under the name “St. Augustinsgymnasium zu Grimma ”, which it now supports again.

Afterwards she studied German, English and Pedagogy at the Humbold University Berlin and worked as a teacher for German and English after her graduation. In 1979 she took part in a talent competition and then began her part-time career as an announcer on state television. In 1984 she finally gave up her teaching and dedicated herself exclusively to her television career.

After reunification, she moderated various music programs on the channels “Das Erste”, “Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk” and “Norddeutscher Rundfunk”. Carmen Nebel became known throughout Germany in 1992 with the preliminary decision for the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson (Eurovision Song Contest) with the title “A Song for Malmo”, which she moderated in the town hall in Magdeburg.

Career

The Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson was the next step on the career ladder when she was spokeswoman for the German jury at the 38th Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland in 1993. After this appearance, she had finally arrived in the world of musical entertainment programs. Between 1994 and 2003, she moderated a total of 46 editions of the program “Die Feste der Volksmusik”, before Florian Silbereisen took over from 2004.

From 2004 to 2019, she finally moderated her own show on ZDF with the title “Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel”, where she talked to various guests from different music genres, especially pop and pop music.

In addition, she moderates various broadcast formats, such as from 2004 to 2011 the special program “Every year again – Christmas with the Federal President” and from 2012 “Christmas with Carmen Nebel”.

The Saxon is also committed to social engagement, since 2006 she has been moderating the program “The Most Beautiful Christmas Hits”, which collects donations for the humanitarian aid organizations Misereor and Bread for the World.

Career highlights

Her life’s work is without a doubt the benefit donation gala “Welcome to Carmen Nebel”, which has been broadcast on ZDF since 2008. On the one hand, the viewers are informed about the fight against the common disease cancer and early detection examinations, on the other hand, donations are collected for the German Cancer Aid. For example, around 2.8 million euros in donations came together in autumn 2019.

In addition, Carmen Nebel has been leading other donation galas for years, for example “Hand in Hand”, where in November 2008 over 4 million euros were collected for the German Cancer Aid. In 2010, the moderator was appointed official ambassador for German Cancer Aid.

In total, over 35 million euros have been raised in the past few years for the fight against cancer with the help of the Carmen Nebel donation galas.

The German Cancer Aid once said that Carmen Nebel and her viewers have been “very reliable donors and outstanding supporters in the fight against cancer since 2008”.

In addition to her social engagements, Carmen Nebel has also been producing her own company “TeeVee Produktions GmbH” in Berlin since 2003, which also produces her hit show “Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel”.
