First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Vladimir dzhabarov believes that without Russia the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, no one remembered.
Earlier, PACE voted for the ratification of the credentials of the Russian delegation in full. Jabbarov called this ordinary event. In his opinion, Russia has done nothing wrong to be deprived of membership in the PACE. Moscow mood for constructive work, he said.
“We… are opposed to using this forum for rabid critics of Russia and our foreign and domestic policy. If not, we are ready to support all reasonable initiatives PACE and participate actively in its work”, – quotes the parliamentarian IA “NSN”.
He believes that the decision to return powers to Russia are not linked to contributions to the country. “Just Russia – a major European country, and without our participation the value of this organization falls sharply,” – said dzhabarov.
“Over the years, that it was not Russia in the PACE, her work, no one remembered, it has lost all meaning and interest. The Assembly was cooked in its own juice… PACE decided to restore my status, returning Russia”, – he concluded.
Russia was deprived of the basic powers of the PACE in April 2014 due to the reunification of the Crimea and armed conflict in the Donbass. In 2017, Moscow has frozen the payment of membership dues and announced it would resume them only after the full restoration of their authority in the organization.
January 28, Deputy Chairman of the state Duma, the head of the Russian delegation to PACE, Peter Tolstoy was elected PACE Vice speaker. PACE winter session opened in Strasbourg on 27 January and will run until January 31.
