The Brazilian government has withdrawn its candidacy for hosting the UN climate change conference COP 25 in the coming year. “Given the current budgetary constraints that are likely to continue in the near future, and of the inauguration of the new government on 1. January 2019 the Brazilian government forced to the deal, the COP 25 to align to take back,” said the foreign Ministry.
The President-elect Jair Bolsonaro said later that he had been involved in the decision. Reason: The sovereignty of Brazil over the Amazon region was in danger. The ultra-right Bolsonaro is considering to follow the example of US President Donald Trump and the Paris climate agreement to get out.

60 percent of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. Its preservation is considered by experts as important in the fight against global warming.
