Icelandic actor and strongman Hafthor Björnsson (31), best known from “Game of Thrones”, set a world deadlift record on Saturday when he lifted 501 kg in a gym in Iceland. He surpassed the record of the British Eddie Hall, who in 2016 was the first man to manage 500 kg. A YouTube video shows Björnsson lifting the barbell with the weights about waist-high for two seconds and then screaming for joy.
He then said, “ESPN,” that he could have done more, but added, “I’m happy with it. My family and friends, they were happy with it and I decided to go with them. ”
Hafthor Björnsson is 2.05 meters tall and weighs 205 kilos. In 2018 he won the “World’s Strongest Man” competition. The 31-year-old also played the role of Gregor Clegane aka “The Mountain” in the hit “Game of Thrones” series.
