Noodle maker donates goods
The situation during the Corona crisis is especially serious for people who already have little. The Hamburger Tafel has also confirmed this. “In addition to the already existing 30,000 table customers in the Hanseatic city, more and more new people are coming into these weeks who have got into social difficulties,” says a current press release. Some of the issuing offices in Hamburg counted a good 20 percent more needy than usual. Fortunately, there are helpers and companies who support the good cause.
The German actress and presenter Andrea Gerhard (36), who has been known to many TV viewers since 2019 as part of the main cast of the ZDF series “Der Bergdoktor”, also proves that everyone can help. According to the Hamburger Tafel, packed food bags are currently being distributed in order to ensure that the delivery is as fast and as low as possible. Gerhard helped distribute the food. “I am happy to be able to make people so happy with such a small gesture,” said the 36-year-old. In times like these you have to “hold together and help where you can”.
Long-lasting goods such as pasta, canned goods and rice are currently particularly in demand, which is why they are currently hardly being donated. “We are really worried, because it is already becoming scarce for existing table customers. […] Noodles are a big hit, especially with families with children, ”explains board member Julia Bauer.
But there are also companies that support the good cause. The Italian food company Barilla donated a full truckload of pasta, which corresponds to 20 tons of pasta. Claus Butterwegge, Managing Director at Barilla Germany, explains: “We would like to thank all of the Tafel employees in Germany for their efforts, particularly in these difficult times. They do great things for our society and we are happy to be able to make a contribution here. ”
Even before the Corona crisis, 1.65 million people in Germany were dependent on the support from the food banks, according to the Bundesverband Tafel Deutschland eV.
