Udo Walz has been a star hairdresser for over half a century, has worked with numerous greats in the fashion industry and set trends. His creations adorned the heads of the models at fashion shows, magazine covers and red carpets around the world. Early life
Udo Walz was born in Waiblingen in 1944 to a motorist. At the age of 14 he was looking for a professional future and did an internship in a friend’s hair salon. There he discovered his passion for hairdressing and started an apprenticeship in Stuttgart. After completing his training, he moved to Zurich, from there to St. Moritz. Here he began working with well-known celebrities of the time, such as Marlene Dietrich and Romy Schneider. His updos quickly became extremely popular. In 1963 he moved to Berlin, where he worked in various high-class salons, soon came into contact with models and gained a foothold in the fashion industry. Since the 1970s, he has also styled Brigitte’s title models and models in the Otto catalogs.
Career
His career breakout began in the mid-1980s. His first barber shop was opened in 1985 on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, eight more followed, including one in the Berlin Kempinski Hotel, one on the cruise ship “Deutschland” and three in Mallorca. Since the beginning of his career, his customers have included many stars that the respective era has spawned. In the 1950s he styled actors like Romy Schneider and Marlene Dietrich, as well as the Greek opera singer Maria Callas. The icon of the 1960s, the model Twiggy was one of his customers as well as model Claudia Schiffer and actress Julia Roberts since the 80s. In addition to television and film stars such as talk show legend Sabine Christiansen or models Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell, the 1990s also brought political greats like Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to his hairdressing chair. Even in the new millennium, the stars in their salons are on the handle. Singer Sarah Connor, TV star Desirée Nick or Chancellor Angela Merkel are of course among his customers. The publicist Gertrud Höhler once said about him: “He is a star and so stars seek his closeness.”

In addition to working with his numerous beautiful and famous customers, Udo Walz also wrote several books. “Udo Walz, hairdresser: every woman is beautiful”, “washing, cutting, living” and “hair-precise: my life for beauty”. In addition, the guide “Udo Walz, Hair Affair: Tips and Tricks” was published.
Udo Walz is a perfectionist, his salons are temples of beauty. He sees his job as a vocation, he lives the childhood dream of not just working as a hairdresser, but as a high class hairdresser. His career is his life and therefore everything he does is a highlight of his life.
Udo Walz has appeared in front of the camera several times. In 2010 he had a guest appearance on the TV soap “Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten”, as well as a guest appearance in the 6th season of the comedy show “Pastewka”. In the crime series “SOKO Stuttgart” he played a client of an upscale hairdressing salon in 2012. In 2015, he played in the “emergency call port edge – where’s dad?” an alcoholic who needs hospital treatment. At “Circus Halligalli” he had his own section and appeared on the ARD quiz show “Paarduell” in 2016.

In his journeyman’s examination, Udo Walz only took 598th place – out of 600.
In 1970 one of his customers was Ulrike Meinhof. A short time later, she was one of the top terrorists in the RAF.
He has been happily dating Carsten Thamm since 1994. And although he said in an interview in 2004 that same-sex marriage was not for him, he reconsidered it and on July 26, 2008 both of them established a registered civil partnership.
Udo Walz is a diabetic and supports an education campaign on vaccinations in adulthood, since people with chronic illnesses in particular are affected by severe courses of various infectious diseases.
