This enabled him to fight for a regular place very early on and to gain a lot of practice from a young age.

In the subsequent games, he scored his goals almost every game and thus cemented his reputation as Germany’s best center forward. His hit rate was so high that he scored 404 goals in 19 years at Hamburger SV and 476 appearances. This quality did not go unnoticed in the European football world for a long time and so Seeler already received a very lucrative offer from Inter Milan in 1961, the club offered around 1.2 million Deutsche Mark as transfer fee. But Uwe refused the change and remained loyal to Hamburger SV, who tried to keep Seeler by all means.

Seeler also caused a sensation internationally with Hamburger SV, because in 1968 they reached the final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup, but lost to AC Milan 2-0. This was also Uwe Seeler’s last final, because in May 1972 Seeler resigned as an active footballer after playing with HSV against a world selection.
