Short introduction

How big Ottfried Fischer’s assets are cannot be quantified exactly. What is certain is that during his active time he was one of the highest paid German actors and cabaret artists. For a series of the cult series “The Bulle of Tölz” he received a fee of 200,000 euros.

His trademarks included an ingenious sense of humor and an oversized waist circumference that radiated Bavarian cosiness.

Early life

Ottfried Fischer grew up isolated on a farm in the Bavarian Forest. His father came from Paderborn and owned a fish shop in Gelsenkirchen before he married Fischer’s mother and moved to Bavaria.

Fischer was a student at the Maristengymnasium in Fürstenzell near Passau. Even then he was popular with his classmates as an entertainer. After graduating from high school, his father initially motivated him to study law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, which was short-lived. After dropping out of law school, Fischer concentrated on his career as a cabaret artist.

Career

Fischer had his first success in 1983 when he became part of the cabaret television show “Meine guests and me”. As a solo artist, he first made a name for himself in 1989 with the stage program “Difficult is easy what”. The second solo tour “What to do” followed in 1994.

In the meantime, Fischer gained popularity among television audiences thanks to his roles in successful series such as “Somehow and Anyway”, which initially came primarily from Bavaria. It was only through the series “Zur Freiheit” that he became known throughout Germany.

He was soon able to look forward to roles in feature films. As in the cult films “Go Trabi Go” or “The Super Jam”, his roles were often comedic in character.

In 1995, Fischer’s success culminated in front of the camera in the home thriller series “Der Bulle von Tölz”, which enjoyed great popularity among the public until 2009. Ultimately, the series was discontinued due to Fischer’s Parkinson’s disease, which he made public in 2008.

After the shock diagnosis, Fischer limited himself to isolated cabaret appearances and the role of Pastor Braun, in which he appeared on ARD until 2014.
