the Actions of the coup was carried out in the period from 18 to 21 August in 1991, when the General political situation in the country was uncertain. To save the Soviet Union the leadership it required considerable support among the United republics, in particular one of these was Chechnya.
One of the key objectives of the interim authority of the emergency Committee was to maintain the Soviet Union in full force.

one year before the start of the main events in the Republic already there was a wave of demonstrations in support of the CRI from the USSR. In November 1990, it convened the General National Congress of Soviets, led Dudayev, which discussed the issue of withdrawal of the Republic from the zone of influence of the USSR and the RSFSR as a whole. However, these actions only provoked the emergence of dual power, with further active struggle for power between supporters of supporting the unity with Soviet Russia. Thus, 8 June ‘ 91 NCCP declared full independence of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria from the Soviet Union with the abolition of all existing laws of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR, the only President of the Republic becomes D. Dudayev.
Why Dudayev was supported by the authority of the emergency Committee?
Support for Dudayev at the beginning of “the events” action of the provisional Committee of the emergency Committee due primarily to the fact that the newly-proclaimed President was going to come in the future from the USSR by reducing the number of victims and collisions among the civilian population.
the Main reasons for the support actions of the emergency Committee:
1. Support the prevailing party in 1991 — at the start of the August events, the dominant party was on the emergency Committee, headed by Gennady Anavim. The USSR had significant forces and were available to KGB and the army.
2. The time of anarchy for carrying out actions aimed at restoration of independence of CRI. Confusion in the Kremlin was comfortable enough for Dudayeva to gain power without military action.
3. The Declaration of independence after the acquisition of legitimacy by the authority of the emergency Committee in Moscow on the basis of relevant documents and people’s choice. Dudayev to the last retained the capacity to do “little blood.”
In case of victory of Dudayev emergency Committee theoretically agreed to retain the basic monetary system and the current legislation with the possibility of further changes in favor of the Republic. However, after the collapse of the Committee of events unfolded in favor of CRI.
